YWCA Transitional House Grand Opening

Congratulations to the YWCA Saskatoon on the grand opening of their new transitional house. Saskatchewan continues to face the highest rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) in the country, with a rate more than twice the national average. This is an epidemic that demands urgent, sustained, and compassionate action.

One of the most effective ways government and community organizations can support women leaving abusive relationships is by investing in second-stage housing. These homes provide a bridge between emergency shelters and permanent, independent housing. They offer not only a safe place to live, but also access to counselling, support services, and the stability needed to begin rebuilding lives.

It was an honour to attend the ribbon cutting and tour this incredible new space—one that will offer hope, safety, and a path forward for so many women and children.

A heartfelt thank you to the YWCA Saskatoon, its staff, supporters, and partners for the incredible work they do every day. This new home is more than just a building—it’s a lifeline.
